Perhaps because women are considered less valuable than men? No, that is not the reason. The reason is different and worth consideration. Why, a man was created in God's image and a human family is an image of the family of God.
When a child is less than six years old, its main educator is its mother. From that time up to ten years of its age the influence of its mother gradually diminishes in favour of educational influence of its father. From that time till adulthood of a child the main role in its upbringing is the father's role. This principle is generally known and recommended by specialists till now. A measure of educational influence can be illustrated by this chart:
Human mothers have considerable problems with loosing their control over their child. Often they try to use their influence to control it inadequately, even when it is adolescent or even adult.
As an adult man, God's Son Jesus had the same experience with his mother. He found she tried to influence his decision-taking. Remember his "strange" behaviour towards his mother when she brought a certain fact to his attention:
JOH 2:3 (NW) When the wine ran short the mother of Jesus said to him: "They have no wine."
The mother's remark might be considered quite normal and in line with usual conversation. In fact, it was far from being innocent as might appear at first sight. Jesus recognized it and his reaction was rather harsh:
JOH 2:4 (NW) But Jesus said to her: "What have I to do with you, woman? My hour has not yet come."
As if he didn't know her at all! He didn't even call her "mother"! Was Jesus rude to his fleshly mother? Jesus recognized the attempt to control him in her words. It was hard for him to resist it - by the way, in spite of his protest he did satisfy her! Rather, we should ask: Did he have other choice in showing resolutely he was an adult man and she couldn't behave to him with the authority of an educator? From a legal point of view, she was just an adult woman for him and he certainly treated her with respect as any other person. Harshness of his reaction just reveals how difficult it was for him to set himself free from emotional influence of his mother.
Who was it?
Did she really exist? Jesus never spoke about her! Was it his human mother Mary, as traditional Christian churches claim? This Mother must have been a "wife" of his heavenly Father. Did his heavenly Father have a "wife", according to the Scriptures? Yes, he did. And he often spoke about her, for instance:
ISA 49:21 (KJ) Then shalt thou say in thine heart, Who hath begotten me these, seeing I have lost my children, and am desolate, a captive, and removing to and fro? and who hath brought up these? Behold, I was left alone; these, where had they been?
ISA 50:1 (KJ) Thus saith the LORD, Where is the bill of your mother's divorcement, whom I have put away? or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities have ye sold yourselves, and for your transgressions is your mother put away.
ISA 54:5(KJ For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.
ISA 62:5 (KJ) For as a young man marrieth a virgin, so shall thy sons marry thee: and as the bridegroom rejoiceth over the bride, so shall thy God rejoice over thee.
JER 3:14 (KJ) Turn, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion.
JER 31:32 (KJ) Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD.
EZE 16:32 (KJ) But as a wife that committeth adultery, which taketh strangers instead of her husband!
EZE 23:2 (KJ) Son of man, there were two women, the daughters of one mother.
HO 2:2 (KJ) Plead with your mother, plead: for she is not my wife, neither am I her husband: let her therefore put away her whoredoms out of her sight, and her adulteries from between her breasts.
That wife is a body of God's spiritual Sons, who were (and are) faithful to "marriage" covenant with God. It was affirmed by Jesus and apostle Paul. (Mt 12:48-50; Mr 3:33-35; Lu 8:21; Ga 4:26)
How Jesus behaved to his spiritual Mother?
He respected her in his spiritual childhood but he opened himself to the educational influence of the Father at latest at the age of twelve. (Lu 2:40-43, 46, 47 ,49, 52).
In the beginning of his activity he tried to use "the mother's methods" in teaching people. (Lu 4:15-22) But as soon as he started to criticize and rebuke them, his self-complacent listeners attacked him and even tried to kill him. (Lu 4:23-30)
After that Jesus demonstrated that he had nothing to do with official church bureaucracy which was responsible for that situation. He realized that this bureaucracy, for which there wasn't any name then, is an instrument of Satan. By the way, Jesus showed by his conduct how to face it. It is possible and necessary to do it even now. The bureaucracy regards rules higher than their purpose and turns them against it in the end.
2CO 3:6 (BBE) The letter gives death, but the Spirit gives life.
Why, then, Jesus spoke about his heavenly Father only?
The reason wasn't disregard for his spiritual Mother. From his baptism to the time of his full spiritual adulthood Jesus as a man of spirit was educated exclusively by his spiritual Father. After Jesus had reached a spiritual "adulthood" his Father seated him on the throne by the side of himself. (Re 3:21) It applies for Jesus' followers as well.
How the Mother of Christians conducts herself nowadays?
Today's Mother acts similarly as before to some extent. Although her task is to care for a Christian from his spiritual "childhood" to his spiritual "adolescence" and then make room for the Father's influence, she is always struggling to balk Christian's further spiritual development.
She gives various reasons for it. It is said sometimes: "Pray and work!" - It means "don't contemplate our words and deeds". In other cases there is a fear of "outrunning the church or organization" etc. If the bureaucrats allow for further spiritual development of a Christian at all, they try to have it under close control. They use common methods for that purpose:
These responsibilities of course include sticking to official interpretations of the Bible. That means, that all who want to develop spiritually have to study prescribed matter and to pass exams in official fixed teachings. To think independently outside closely controlled limits is not allowed. So a person who is interested in "theology" is forced to become - from a spiritual point of view - a "big child", totally dependent on its spiritual Mother, therefore unable to achieve accurate knowledge.
Note: The worst situation is if the mother tries to be a substitute for the father. Maybe the child doesn't get to know its father at all. It may either become absolutely dependent on the mother or hate both parents in the end.
How can God's Sons (and Daughters) reach spiritual maturity?
In fact, the heavenly Father has many true Sons (and Daughters), who usually are not installed as high church officials. Often they are ordinary members of a church and feel rather uneasy: Church bureaucrats on the one hand demand the officially prescribed or the least tolerated commitment from them appealing to their compassion with others but on the other hand they threaten them with denunciation as "heretics", "servants of the devil" or "apostates" and with scandalizing their name. It has reached such an extent in some churches that the bureaucrats tolerate "apostasy" much less than any others (and in fact more serious) trespasses or conduct and such "apostates" are excommunicated. Nevertheless, these bureaucrats know that God's Son will judge them according to their behaviour towards his "anointed ones". (Mt 25:31-45) Besides, most churches allowed for God's children in the beginning. There was of course an institution of so called "Nazarene" for these people in ancient Israel.
That's why all those who really want and are able to get to know God's will and who want to assist mankind in atonement (so today's God's Sons) can't remain in spiritual dependence on their Mother. (Ho 13:13) The only chance for their development is to join the others who are anointed with Holy spirit, and prepare and then build a new heaven and new earth together. (Heb 12:23; 2Pe 3:13)
Note: Sometimes mother and father are not at one as to their opinion of their child (Ge 35:18).
Remember:
Often we can hear that "the disciple is not above his master". But every true master teaches his disciple and gives him a certificate. If the qualified disciple wants to become a master, he must seek his own way according to a gift that was given to him! This is the only way any craft can be improved!
Jesus did it this way and invited his disciples to follow him. He even told them:
Lu 17:10 (BBE) In the same way, when you have done all the things which are given to you to do, say, There is no profit in us, for we have only done what we were ordered to do.
In fact, Jesus told them indirectly but quite distinctly: "... when you have done only the things which are given to you to do, say, There is no profit in us, for we have only done what we were ordered to do." His brothers and friends (how he would call them later) could not act like slaves!
And what about disputes among God's Sons?
God's Sons (and Daughters) have and will have a spirit of truth. That by itself guarantees that all contingent disagreements will be solved in the end. (Joh 15:26; 16:13) God is not divided, that is why his children can't be divided either. They will always accept the best solution then.
After all, we can read in God's word about disagreements:
EZE 37:22 (KJ) And I will make them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king to them all: and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all.
RO 10:12 (KJ) For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
1CO 1:13 (KJ) Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?
1CO 12:4-6 (KJ) Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
GA 3:28 (KJ) There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
EPH 2:14, 15 (KJ) For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace.
JAS 2:1, 4 (BBE) My brothers, if you have faith of our Lord Jesus Christ of glory, do not take a man's position into account. Is there not a division in your minds? Have you not become judges with evil thoughts?
Can anybody of ill will mingle among God's Sons and Daughters?
No longer, because the Father has prepared a lot of trials by means of which he will separate his Sons and Daughters from the sons and daughters of that evil one. Then the Son will send his angels to uproot the weeds.
MAL 3:18 (KJ) Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.
MT 12:25-26 (KJ) And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand. And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?
MR 3:24-26 (KJ) And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom can't stand. And if a house be divided against itself, that house can't stand. And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he can't stand, but hath an end.
LU 11:17-18 (KJ) But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth. If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub.
And so on, for instance Mt 13:18-30; 36-43.
By diversion from the covenant
As foretold (De 31:16-21), the people of Israel - and especially its spiritual leaders - betrayed the spirit of the covenant with God. But Christendom and its churches believe that there is no such danger in their case. But it is! It's true that the second advent of Christ - in contrast to the first one - is for salvation.
HEB 9:28 (KJ) So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
But there are those even in the second covenant who don't understand the spirit of it and are lead astray. One of the serious mistakes is that good intention is enough.
ISA 1:21 (KJ) How is the faithful city become an harlot! it was full of judgment; righteousness lodged in it; but now murderers.
EZE 16:45 (KJ) Thou art thy mother's daughter, that lotheth her husband and her children...
AM. 2:7 (KJ) A man and his father will go in unto the same maid, to profane my holy name.
RE 12:6; 17:1, 3 (KJ) And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days... And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters ... So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
There are many Christians who believe that charity and faith in salvation is all they need!
On the other hand, there are those who think that all they need for their salvation is alleged "accurate knowledge of truth". But it is that "accuracy" for which they are hard up because their reasoning is dishonest. They fancy their own teaching that they consider to be that important accurate truth. They don't understand the meaning of the word truth. They don't know truth is a quality of a statement, set of statements or any model in general and that there is possible only to distinguish good model from bad one by comparing the quality of proof.
So what is vital for salvation?
Besides good will and deeds of faith, knowledge and correct understanding are necessary:
ISA 1:3 (YET) The ox hath known its owner and ab ass the crib of its master, Israel hath not known, my people hath not understood.
God speaks about misunderstanding!
ISA 1:13 (KJ) Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I can't away with; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting.
The so-called "service to God" alone is not valuable.
ISA 27:11 (KJ) When the boughs thereof are withered, they shall be broken off: the women come, and set them on fire: for it is a people of no understanding: therefore he that made them will not have mercy on them, and he that formed them will shew them no favour.
Punishment for lack of effort to understand the meaning of the covenant.
RO 3:20 (NW) Therefore by works of law no flesh will be declared righteous before him, for by law is the accurate knowledge of sin.
God demands accurate knowledge.
RO 10:2 (NW) For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God; but not according to accurate knowledge;
God demands accurate knowledge.
COL 2:2(NW) ...that they hearts may be harmoniously joined together in love and with a
view to an accurate knowledge of the sacred secret of God, namely, Christ.
God demands accurate knowledge.
1TI 2:15 (NW) Do your utmost to present yourself approved to God, a workman with
nothing to be ashamed of, handling the word of the truth aright.
God demands accurate knowledge.
2TI 2:25 (NW) ...instructing with mildness those not favorably disposed; as perhaps God
may give them repentance leading to an accurate knowledge of truth...
God demands accurate knowledge.
2TI 3:7 (NW) ...always learning and yet never able to come to an accurate knowledge of truth.
God demands accurate knowledge.
TIT 1:1 (NW) Paul, a slave of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ according to the faith of God's chosen ones and the accurate knowledge of the truth which accords with godly devotion...
God demands accurate knowledge.
HEB 10:26 (NW) For if we practice sin willfully after having received the accurate
knowledge of the truth, there is no longer any sacrifice for sins left.
God demands accurate knowledge.
It is dangerous to look back.
Putting aside those who were openly opposed to the new covenant in the time of Jesus and his apostles, Jesus' followers themselves were in danger - in the danger of looking back to the first covenant:
AC 15:5 (KJ) But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.
2CO 3:6 (KJ) Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
2CO 3:14 (BBE) But their minds made hard: for to this very day at the reading of the old agreement the same veil is still unlifted; though it is taken away in Christ.
GA 2:18 (KJ) For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor.
GA 4:4 (KJ) But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law.
GA 5:2 (KJ) Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing.
GA 5:4 (KJ) Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.
HEB 7:19 (KJ) For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.
HEB 8:13 (NW) In his saying "a new covenant" he has made the former one obsolete. Now that which is made obsolete and growing old is near to vanishing away.
One can say: "But today's Christians have no intention to go back to the first covenant."
Nevertheless, the situation is similar nowadays: The second covenant is close to its end and the third one is at hand! But as it was before, Christians don't look forward to that new covenant at all, neither the "anointed" ones! But sticking to the second covenant is as dangerous as was sticking to the first one in previous case!
But why?" exclaims a shocked Christian, "what's wrong with the second covenant?"
The second covenant is obsolete!
What is obsolete in it?
The faith of the second covenant was based on mysticism. Though it spoke about the truth, a great deal of it was based on the witness of people who, though convinced that the witness they bear is true, didn't understand the phenomena they observed so that they attributed false meaning to them. And on these witnesses were built teachings of Christian churches.
No wonder there are so many churches with different creeds. It is not possible to mingle truth with mysteries without adverse consequences!
So the more Christians try to get to know the truth, the more "discrepancies" they find in the Bible and they must overcome them by mysteries (no matter, whether they are able to admit it or not). Them they escape in the domain of feelings and emotions in the end. They say the matter is the meaning of gospel and the only meaning of it is love. So they look back to the second covenant.
On the other hand, the Sons and Daughters by themselves pass from Mother to Father (as did Jesus). They are not forced to leave the Mother. They themselves find that the Mother's care is not enough for their further spiritual development, and so they take their courage to come to the Father, who punishes those whom he loves. (Heb 2:5-11) But they don't cease to respect the Mother and they appreciate her role.
Those who need tenderness of their Mother are not considered less valuable Sons and Daughters. They will come later, after they will have reached the age when they begin seeking the Father, too. (1Th 2:7, 8) Perhaps they are not satisfied with their present Mother and want to find another one, more tender and compassionate. None of the adult Sons and Daughters will prevent them from their seeking.
The third covenant?
In fact, Jesus spoke about the new wine! (Mt 26:29; Mr 14:25)
